i used to always wonder about this and then later actually read origin of the species and other evolutionary theory stuff and it started to make sense. But looking back I do remember wondering about why mosquitos feed on blood, why poison dart frogs have lethal toxin and other "miracles of creation" and being told....... wait for it......

you see, this is what's wrong with the whole setup. Why did you tell the elders? what are they going to do? If she's not in trouble, then obviously she has some sort of "pull" and nothing will happen to her. If that girl wants to pretend to knock on doors while hooking up with some pastor guy, then whatever. Life is screwed up enough. I would take this oppurtunity to disappear from the Hall.

I hate when they use this scripture to justify their harrassment of people just trying to live their lives. Okay, let's play Devil's advocate here for a second and assume that disfellowshipping really is a beneficial arrangement (just bear with me...). Even if that were true, by what authority does some guy in a cheap suit with little or no education have to render such a serious judgment? It's nuts. Hell, what's to stop me from assuming such authority? What prevents me from walking around DFing people?
Let me get this straight, then: A guy goes out in field service alot, comments alot and cleans the KH toilets regularly. So the CO comes around and asks about this guy and the elders say he's a great guy because he goes out in field service, comments and cleans toilets. So the CO writes a goofy recommendation and mails it up to Bethel. The Service Department or whatever opens it up, looks at how many magazines he places, shrugs then send back the approval. A month later he's an elder and now has authority to render a judgment against a woman that would prevent her own biological children from speaking to her.
Makes complete sense, right?

i've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

Let's stop and remember a very important point in all of this....
sure the JWs believe that the end of the world is near and these are signs, BUT there are many other religious groups who are attributting these "signs" to doomsday prophecy too. The point I'm trying to make is that when supposedly Jerusalem fell to the Romans, the early Christians were warning about it and heeded Jesus' instruction and fled. And JWs like to present their arguement for Armageddon as if they are the only group out of ALLLLLLLLLL religion who are warning of the "coming destruction". But this isn't true, because there are many groups clamouring about earthquakes and Mayan calanders and dead birds, etc.
So how do we know that maybe one of those other religious doomsday groups are correct?
so i attended a funeral for a jw who passed away (non-"annointed) and i would have to state that although i have heard the standard funeral talk outline for dozens of funerals i've attended, i never really took the time to listen.
and my god, i was cringing.
